Antone's (Austin, Texas)

Shot with my little APS camera, but it is still Murry.

I can only call this one my "hick photo" of Rhett.  I have no idea what happened.

Philip, Rhett and Murry at Antone's.  I was having exposure problems with little APS camera.  The whites are too white.

Again with the white problems.

Rhett was getting very sweaty -- this was probably about 1:30 in the morning.

{{ Sorry, image file in need of repair. I messed up something. Should be : Murry was about to start singing "Valentine" and was on the center mike. }}

This was my very first Old 97's show to photograph.  As you can see, I was nervous and didn't take great shots.  I was also using my little APS camera.  The Antone's show was my first night of really being thrown into this world.  Only two weeks later, I was running around South by Southwest, going to as many shows as I could with my best friend, meeting people like Jon Langford.  I had lots of experience using my Nikon N-70 to shoot black and white images like the ones in my portfolio, but it took me a few weeks to gain enough confidence to start taking it to concerts.  The photos from Southwestern are my first ones taken with my Nikon.  I now carry my Nikon to most shows and get much better results.  My advice to others is to use that fancy camera if you have it.  And keep it on automatic.  People move so quickly on stage - by the time you have your settings correct, they will have started doing something else.  And a quick remark about flash etiquette: only use that super bright flash during the first three songs unless you have explicit permission from the band to continue using it throughout the show.  The boys in Old 97's are nice enough to allow anyone to photograph their shows -- let's keep it that way.
