Cafe Du Nord -- San Francisco, CA

While I adore the Cafe Du Nord (and its fine staff of bartenders and doormen), they have one of the smallest stage lighting systems and stock it mostly with red lights. And while this works well for the whole red velvet speakeasy vibe, it makes for sometimes less-than-perfect color saturations inside my camera. Because, really, you must understand that John Roderick sported the most fetching sky blue vintage western shirt early in the show.

I could say a ton of things about this show and how much fun it was to work the merch booth, but here you go. A preview, if you will, of some of the photos:

John Roderick and Mike Squires

Eric Corson

Nabil Ayers on drums.

Roderick also played a keyboard for some of the more "delicate" new songs.

Eric and Mike

A group shot, with true-ish colors, from the middle of the club.

Meanwhile, over at the merch table.

John tells Merlin Mann a shocking story before the show.

Getting good.

Eric and his not-so-new-anymore tattoo.

Roderick adjusts his glasses.

While somehow also dishing out pithy social commentary.

"Medicine Cabinet Pirate" works for me.

John Roderick likes warm brownies, free wi-fi, long walks on the beach and puppies.

Or, you know, he's just a wonderful guy with a really fucking good band.
